(Ok, so that’s 9 in Mars years, 15 in Earth years. In the early ’60s, Poddy was a feminist inspiration to young women who would be space captains – buuuut 2015 readers might feel differently every time Poddy talks about hiding her intelligence around men so as not to bruise their egos, ( our snouts are more sensitive to the scent of sexism.) Hopefully those readers don’t dwell too much on the “classic Heinlein” eyebrow-raising elements here: a few of the crew members seem a little too eager to have 9-year old Poddy wriggle on their laps, for instance. There’s suspense, and not-too-much science, and the threat of space terrorism, all conveyed through a winning narrator’s voice. Well, in Mars years.ġ963’s “Podkayne of Mars” is the last of Heinlein’s YA novels (he himself felt differently about that clasification.) There’s a whole galaxy of improvement between “Podkayne” and “Rocket Ship Galileo”. We’ve gone from Hardy Boys chasing Moon smugglers to a fully realized character in Podkayne “Poddy” Fries, a Marsgirl who travels from her home planet to Earth in a luxury cruise liner, accompanying her diplomat uncle and her game-playing genius brother. Except that Podkayne is supposed to be 9 years old.

Spoiler alert olivia dade summary7/7/2023 We find out quickly that it is indeed a cultivated image for a plethora of reasons, but mainly because he’s struggled with dyslexia most of his life. He is swoon worthy to the extreme, and has cultivated an image of someone without much behind the curtains. Marcus is a lead in a fan-heavy genre TV show based on a popular book series. Spoiler Alert not only did a wonderful job tackling the body image issue, but it also took a hard and fast look at self-image for those that are considered attractive by society’s standards. I don’t know what about this book made me want to read it immediately, but it did. I’m usually hesitant to read books with a plus size women, not because I don’t yearn to read books with people that look like me, but because so often they don’t live up to my expectations. It went straight from hearing about it, buying it and opening it immediately. Somehow this book ended up never even hitting my TBR list. I’m sure we all have TBR lists that never truly end.

I am already looking forward to reading the sequels. The sand and playing cards between the pages were enough for me to enjoy it. In terms of literature, it was not very satisfying, as you can imagine. I also admired the fact that it tells a real part of Ancient Egypt with a captivating story. While Lady Lostris holds the future and continuity of the country, she will be able to overcome all the difficulties that life presents to her, with the help of her love for Tanus and her slave Taita.Īs with every adventure book, I will say the same thing for this book yes, it was immersive and great fun. However, the same gods forbade him all he ever wanted in life, the only love of his life, Lady Lostris. The gods told the handsome young warrior Tanus that he would change Egypt’s future. We are listening to Taita, an adorable and talented slave in many ways. The ties of the Courtney family are put to the ultimate test as one member falls to evil. Golden Fox (1990): The war tears South Africa apart. Sean Courtney fights for love and resistance. If you enjoy Ancient Egypt and adventure, you will have no reason not to like this book. A Time to Die (1989): A woman and two men go on a hunt that tears the safe African safari apart in a civil war. But among the sea, sand, sun and all the games played on the vacation, and the River God was a very gripping novel that I read in no time. I am not exaggerating if I say I love reading his life story more than his books. British novelist Wilbur Smith is one of the most exciting authors I have ever read.
